What is Pure Casein?

Pure Casein is a premium sustained-release protein powder supplement containing the best form of casein protein (micellar casein) for helping active individuals meet their protein needs. Micellar casein is a complete protein that is very low in fat and sugar. It is ideal when taken before bed or throughout the day to provide upwards of eight hours of amino acid supply into the bloodstream, thereby supporting muscle tissue growth and repair over extended periods of time.

If you’re looking for a fast-acting protein to take after exercising, check out Pure Nutrition Whey Isolate and Pure Whey.

What is Casein Protein?

Casein is the major type of protein in cow’s milk, comprising roughly 80% of all the protein.1 Casein is a complete protein and comes in various forms, including calcium caseinate and micellar casein. This protein is unique in that it absorbs much slower than whey protein, providing a sustained release of amino acids to the body for upwards of eight hours after ingestion. Essential amino acids must be provided through diet as the body doesn’t produce them on its own.

Micellar casein is a readily soluble, high-quality protein powder with a clean flavor and rich, creamy texture. In nature, most casein protein exists as what’s known as a casein micelle. A casein micelle is a colloidal particle that biologically serves to transport insoluble calcium-phosphate complexes in liquid form to the stomach for clotting and subsequent digestion. In fact, over 90% of the calcium content in skim milk is linked with the casein micelle.

Benefits of Pure Casein

Research indubitably shows that protein is the most important macronutrient for maintaining and building muscle (especially those who engage in regular resistance training and exercise).1 After a workout, your best bet is a fast-acting whey protein (like Pure Whey or Whey Isolate).

However, we created Pure Casein to help people meet their protein needs at other times of the day when a longer-acting supply of amino acids is desired.

Protein is also essential for a variety of other biological functions, such as neurotransmission, energy production, cardiovascular function, and immune system regulation.2

Research shows that protein sources with larger amounts of L-leucine are ideal for optimizing muscle protein synthesis.3 For example, Pure Casein contains a large amount L-leucine compared to other protein sources (such as soy protein, chicken, beef, etc.). Naturally, stimulating muscle protein synthesis more intensely will promote better muscle tissue growth and repair.

Moreover, the high-quality casein protein in Pure Casein has extensive benefits beyond just muscle repair and muscle building. See below for a comprehensive list of the research-backed benefits of Pure Casein:

  • Pure micellar casein protein with over 5  grams of slow-releasing BCAAs per serving to support sustained muscle repair and growth4
  • Long-lasting, sustained-release of amino acids
  • Ideal before bed to promote anabolism and recovery while you sleep
  • Practical & convenient to add to any diet plan
  • Increases the anabolic response to resistance training/intense exercise5
  • Decreases muscle protein breakdown for upwards of eight hours6

What Makes Pure Nutrition Pure Casein the Best Whey Protein Supplement on the Market?

Pure Nutrition Pure Casein is a delicious and slowly digesting micellar casein supplement, providing the highest quality casein protein available. Be wary of “pure casein” supplements that only include calcium caseinate, which doesn’t tend to be as effective as pure micellar casein.

Furthermore, unlike low-quality protein supplements, Pure Nutrition Pure Casein is made in Germany in a cGMP facility by using proprietary ultra- and micro-filtration processes yielding a protein powder that contains negligible lactose and fat.

One scoop of Pure Casein contains:

  • 23 grams of Pure Casein protein
  • Over 4.5 grams of sustained-release, muscle-building BCAAs
  • Over 4.5 grams of glutamine
  • Only 2 grams of net carbs
  • Minimal lactose
  • No added sugar

Pure Nutrition Pure Casein is ideal for active people who want a low-lactose, sustained-release protein supplement! Pure Casein is ideal for use before bed or any other time of the day when you want a slowly digesting source of quality protein.

Who Should Use Pure Casein

Pure Casein is the best sustained-release source of protein and can benefit a wide range of people, including:

  • Active gym-goers who regularly train with weights and want a slow-releasing form of protein
  • Anyone looking for a great source of protein before bed
  • Competitive and recreation athletes
  • Bodybuilders and physique competitors
  • Endurance athletes and distance runners (especially before a long-duration event)

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: I’m lactose intolerant, can I still use Pure Casein?

A: Pure Nutrition Pure Casein is very low in lactose content and should be well-tolerated by most individuals.

Q: I’m allergic to milk/dairy, is Pure Casein safe for me?

A: This product contains milk. You will need to consult with your physician first to make sure your allergy is not due to the casein fractions in milk. If you’re allergic to the only the whey fractions of milk but not the casein fraction,s then yes, Pure Casein should be safe.

Q: Does it matter what liquid I use to mix Pure Casein with?

A: No, Pure Nutrition Pure Casein will mix with most liquids. We recommend using a shaker cup.

Q: Can I add Pure Casein to food recipes?

A: Yes! Pure Nutrition Pure Casein isn’t as ideal for baking or cooking with since it doesn’t firm up like whey protein, but it does add a rich, creamy texture to cold foods (like yogurt and pudding).
