What Is Pure Nutrition Saw Palmetto?

Pure Nutrition Saw Palmetto is a potent single-ingredient formula featuring pure saw palmetto fruit powder for enhancing prostate health, urinary function, male well-being and a variety of other biological processes.

Saw palmetto (Serenoa repens) is a major understory plant indigenous to the southeastern United States, bearing fruits that have been heavily researched for decades and proven to beneficial for supporting prostate and urinary function in males.  In fact, this particular herb has been used since the late 1800s and was touted as the “Old man’s friend,” due to its ability to provide relief for symptoms of an enlarged prostate.

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is one of the most common diseases of aging men and can cause pain while urinating and hinder the ability to fully empty the bladder. While there are pharmaceutical options to treat BPH and bladder complications, research suggests that saw palmetto fruit extract supplementation is superior to placebo with fewer side effects of drugs that are commonly used to treat these issues.1

Pure Nutrition Saw Palmetto features an evidence-based dose saw palmetto fruit (berry) powder, which is supported by clinical findings to encourage a healthy prostate, support healthy urinary function, and promote general men’s health.2

How Pure Nutrition Saw Palmetto Works

The fruit of saw palmetto appears to work through a variety of mechanisms to support a healthy prostate and promote healthy urinary function. Research suggests that these mechanisms may include anti-androgenic actions in the prostate cells as well as anti-adrenergic properties in the lower urinary tract.3

As males ages, the androgenic effects of hormones like testosterone and its derivatives, such as dihydrotestosterone (DHT), can start to cause growth and proliferation of cells in the smooth muscle tissue of the prostate gland. In turn, the prostate grows and starts constrict the bladder neck, resulting in pain when urinating (and trouble fully emptying the bladder).

Saw palmetto fruit is said to contain fatty acids and fatty acid esters that effectively block the actions of enzymatic conversion of testosterone to DHT (by inhibiting 5-alpha-reductase), as well as the enzymatic conversion of DHT to androstanediol (by inhibiting 3-alpha-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase). In turn, this can help reverse/prevent the growth of prostate tissue by reducing the effects of androgens on prostate cells.

Compounds in saw palmetto fruit also appear to inhibit prostate adrenoceptors as well as bladder muscarinic receptors; this helps support urinary health by reducing bladder spasms and the intensity of bladder contractions.4
